Scrooges at the Workplace: a Recession in Work Ethics

Darkness is cheap, and Scrooge liked it.
~Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol

 ***

I have a huge migraine right now and it’s all because of my stupid job. I was practically spacing out the entire day, especially when I was at the office awhile ago. I just found out that there is a possibility that I might get fired or “laid off” in a few weeks or so. I know that I’m guilty of taking it easy from time to time but I only do so when I’m sure that I have not much work on my hands. It frustrates me knowing the fact there is possibility that I might be let go from this company who have been the source of my stress for the past few weeks. Heck, when I was promoted to a staff position, I did not even get proper training. I mean, I had to find out things on my own and learn stuff which I, as an English Lit Major, absolutely wouldn’t know anything about. (more…)

Usapin Ukol sa Pag-iisa, Pagod at Star Trek

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Hindi dahil slut ako or flirt.

IM OVER TESTOSTERONED these past few days. *no pun intended*

Cultural Mosaic, Friend or Foe?

Monday, May 11, 2009

‘Rome was destroyed, Greece was destroyed, Persia was destroyed, Spain was destroyed. All great countries are destroyed. Why not yours? how much longer do you really think your own country will last? Forever? Keep in mind that the earth itself is destined to be destroyed by the sun in twenty-five million years or so…’
~Catch-22, Joseph Heller

For the past month or so, I’ve been hearing about the on-going genocide in Sri Lanka. I even saw a few protestors rallying at Morningside and Ellesmere, a block away from the University of Toronto campus I’m attending. There were mothers, fathers, children and a number of elderly people carrying “Help Save Tamils” and “No to War” banners while some shouts “Stop the War Canada” with all their might .  However, shout as they might, I can see their protest is bound to fail at that moment. Don’t get me wrong, I do not carry any prejudice towards their ethnicity. (more…)

Unlocking the "BRO CODE"

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

“Whether we know it or not, each of us lives a life governed by an internalized code of conduct. Some call it morality. Others call it religion. I call it “the Bro Code.”
~The Bro Code, Barney Stinson

 ***

I just finished reading Barney Stinson’s The Bro Code about ten minutes ago. I have been meaning to read it last summer but for some reason, the guys won’t just let me borrow it. Back then, I kept thinking… What’s the big deal? I mean, it’s just another book on understanding the opposite sex, right? Wrong. The book was entitled The Bro Code for a reason, meaning it was intended for a Bro audience and not for Chics like me. (Yes, I called myself a Chic, got a problem with that?)

Summer Fever meets Pride and Prejudice

Sunday, May 3, 2009

My feelings in every respect forbid it. Can I speak plainer? Do not consider me now as an elegant female, intending to plague you, but as a rational creature, speaking the truth from her heart.
~Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen

Today was supposed to be a good day. I woke up feeling all hyped up like a perky Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde. I don’t know what happened but I suddenly found myself ironically lonely in the middle of a crowd. Maybe it’s because the weather changed from sunny to gloomy. Or perhaps, it’s the financial worries that’s haunting me again. Winter took its leave during the last week of March and hailed the forthcoming of the spring season. (more…)
