Movie Review: "Young Victoria"

“Do you ever feel like a chess piece yourself? In a game being played against your will.”
~The Young Victoria, (2009)

***

I found myself in a state of boredom today since my shift at work got cancelled for the third time this week. So, in the middle of it all, I got an urge to watch a movie. However, all I had in my downloaded folder was the movie, Unborn. The scaredy-cat that I am just refuse to watch it after hearing how one of my closest girlfriend had to sleep with the light on for two weeks straight. I don’t even know why I downloaded that thing in the first place, I guess I blame it all on curiosity. Teehee.

So anywho, I decided to justwatch a movie through online streaming. There were a bunch of movies there that I’ve been meaning to watch, however, “Young Victoria” caught my attention. The story is basically about the rise of Queen Victoria of the House of Hanover to the English throne. The Victorian era was named after her upon ruling the United Kingdom for approximately six decades. The cast for this movie includes Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada with Anne Hathaway) and Rupert Friend (Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley). At first, I thought the movie was not going to be that good since I hardly know the cast. But I guess, no one should really judge a book by it’s cover.  Call me a nerd and I won’t argue with you, because fact is, I’m definitely one. I like movies which are based on a different time, era, and this movie is one cup of tea I’d drink to the bottom down.

A Portrait of Queen Victoria’s family. She and Prince Albert had nine children altogether.

This adaptation of Queen Victoria’s earlier years as a ruler depicts a young lady struggling to find herself in the middle of a political masquerade. Everyone wears a mask and this kind of disguise made it difficult for her to find her one true love. Yes, I mentioned the old cliched line. What can I say, I’m a sucker for “this” kind of love story. When Prince Albert died in his early forties, Queen Victoria was so devastated that she wore black until her own death.

As much as I want to share more details, I don’t want to spoil it for people who do want to watch it. It’s really not that bad. In fact, you may find yourself engrossed in it after a few scenes. hahaha. But yea, if you guys have the time and nerdiness, watch it. I highly recommend it to Jane Austen and Emily Bronte fans.

I give this movie
FOUR MINI-DARTH VADERS and a HALF-SIZED RETRO CHEWBACCA out of FIVE

That is all.

Adieu.

It’s amazing. An awesoming piece of arts “Young Victoria”, which I once downloaded on search engine on torrent files http://www.picktorrent.com is a masterpiece indeed. I am not a fan of such a genre, but I was totally absorbed by the movie. Now I know that the most precious thing in our lives is the art to love.
