Cherry Blossoms are not common here in Toronto. There are very few segregated places which have them. Personally, I’ve never been to one. I found out, through google of course, that High Park has them. I want to see them because I’ve never seen Cherry Blossoms at full bloom before. There are a few Cherry Blossom trees planted near the Humanities Building in my campus but they are still quite young and haven’t reached their maturity yet.

Miss Manila Pageant in Toronto: a Money-Wasting Eye Bleeder for the Deranged
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 It would be an endless task to trace the variety of meannesses, cares, and sorrows, into which women are plunged by the prevailing opinion that they were created rather to feel than reason, and that all the power they obtain, must be obtained by their charms and weakness.
~Mary Wollstoncraft-Godwin, A Vindication of the Rights of Women

I logged in to my facebook account half an hour ago and was horrified by the flood of Miss Manila Pageant pics on my newsfeed. This Miss Manila Pageant is held every year in Toronto and sadly, it’s one of those beauty contest that I regard as a waste of time. When I got invited to see the event last year, I did not know what to expect. In fact, I turned my closet inside-out just to find something to wear. I did not want to look overly dressed nor did I want to look like garbage, so I settled for one of my vintage dresses.

I have a huge migraine right now and it’s all because of my stupid job. I was practically spacing out the entire day, especially when I was at the office awhile ago. I just found out that there is a possibility that I might get fired or “laid off” in a few weeks or so. I know that I’m guilty of taking it easy from time to time but I only do so when I’m sure that I have not much work on my hands. It frustrates me knowing the fact there is possibility that I might be let go from this company who have been the source of my stress for the past few weeks. Heck, when I was promoted to a staff position, I did not even get proper training. I mean, I had to find out things on my own and learn stuff which I, as an English Lit Major, absolutely wouldn’t know anything about. (more…)
Hindi dahil slut ako or flirt.
IM OVER TESTOSTERONED these past few days. *no pun intended*

Cultural Mosaic, Friend or Foe?
Monday, May 11, 2009 ‘Rome was destroyed, Greece was destroyed, Persia was destroyed, Spain was destroyed. All great countries are destroyed. Why not yours? how much longer do you really think your own country will last? Forever? Keep in mind that the earth itself is destined to be destroyed by the sun in twenty-five million years or so…’
~Catch-22, Joseph Heller

For the past month or so, I’ve been hearing about the on-going genocide in Sri Lanka. I even saw a few protestors rallying at Morningside and Ellesmere, a block away from the University of Toronto campus I’m attending. There were mothers, fathers, children and a number of elderly people carrying “Help Save Tamils” and “No to War” banners while some shouts “Stop the War Canada” with all their might . However, shout as they might, I can see their protest is bound to fail at that moment. Don’t get me wrong, I do not carry any prejudice towards their ethnicity. (more…)
